Oral Pathology
The inside of the mouth is normally lined with a special type of skin (mucosa) that is smooth and coral pink in color. Any alteration in this appearance could be a warning sign for a pathological process. The most serious of these is oral cancer. The following can be signs at the beginning of a pathological process or cancerous growth:
- Reddish patches (erythroplasia) or whitish patches (leukoplakia) in the mouth
- A sore that fails to heal and bleeds easily
- A lump or thickening on the skin lining the inside of the mouth
- Chronic sore throat or hoarseness and/or difficulty in chewing or swallowing
These changes can be detected on the lips, cheeks, palate, and gum tissue around the teeth, tongue, face, and/or neck. Pain does not always occur with pathology, and curiously, is not often associated with oral cancer. However, any patient with facial and/or oral pain without an obvious cause or reason may also be at risk for oral cancer.
We would recommend performing an oral cancer self-examination monthly. Remember that your mouth is one of your body’s most important warning systems. Do not ignore suspicious lumps or sores. Please contact us so we can assist you with any questions or concerns.

Dr. Jacob, first and foremost, provides the highest caliber of care to his patients. I feel calm because I know he is doing his utmost for me personally. He has the best interactions with patients in this practice that normally would frighten me! But as soon as I met him, I knew because of his background that he was the top of the line provider that I needed. I was blessed the day I met him and this wonderful staff. Thank you for all the wonderful care you provide.

I could go on and on about the staff and Dr. Jacob. I had 4 teeth extracted in one day with only local anesthesia, but the experience was not at all what you would expect. The staff greeted me with smiles on the day of the surgery, got me comfortable and explained (again) what would be done, gave me headphones to listen to music and then the doctor went to work. As he was working he kept encouraging me and telling me how well I was doing! It's so rare that a doctor with all his credentials is also humble and kind! Dr. Jacob even personally called me that evening to see how I was doing. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I'll definitely use their services again and I'd recommend this office to all my friends and family. Thank you all again! 🙂
